I studied at The University of Leeds Medical School. I intercalated and attained a first class honors degree in Anatomy in 1995. After graduating from medical school I continued my basic surgical training in Liverpool and Leicester becoming a Member of the Royal College of Surgeons of England and Edinburgh. I then undertook two years of clinical research at the University of Leicester. My higher surgical training was completed on the South Trent rotation. I spent one year in Bristol, subspecialising in pelvic and acetabular trauma/complex trauma and spent a further year in Perth, Western Australia, specialising in complex hip and knee arthroplasty and revision arthroplasty.
I live in Bristol with my wife and two young daughters.

Prof Acharya continues undertake scientific investigations to publish research and articles on current Orthopaedic Practice. His research has been cited in Standard Orthopaedic Texts. I took up my consultant post at Frenchay and the Avon Orthopaedic Centre, Southmead in Bristol as an Orthopaedic Surgeon with a special interest in orthopaedic trauma and lower limb joint replacement, in particular pelvic reconstruction, complex trauma, hip and knee replacement and revision hip surgery. I am keen to individualise treatment for each patient and offer both operative and non-operative treatment modalities. I was made Honorary Clinical Professor of Orthopaedics in 2021 at the Aneurin Bevan University Health Board (ABUHB) (Welsh: Bwrdd Iechyd Prifysgol Aneurin Bevan) for my work in supporting and developing their pelvic trauma and tumour services.

I am currently the Audit lead for the Orthopaedic and Trauma Department at North Bristol and I also represent the musculoskeletal department as Lead Clinician for venous throboembolism (VTE).
I am dedicated to teaching both undergraduates and postgraduate trainees and have a number of publications in peer reviewed journals.
