Mr Eastaugh-Waring is Clinical Director of the Department of Orthopaedic and Trauma Surgery at the North Bristol NHS Trust for many years. NBNHST is one of the largest NHS Trusts in the country. Mr Eastaugh-Waring's practice is purely related to the hip joint, and covers the full breadth of hip disease and symptoms, from soft tissue injuries and impingement in the sporting patient, through treatment of arthritis in all ages, to management of the failed hip replacement with revision and reconstruction surgery.
His training was with Professors Learmonth and Bannister in Bristol, followed by a fellowship in Toronto with Professor Waddell. Steve is consistently one of the most productive hip specialists in the Southwest and perform over 200 hip replacements per year with a further 130-150 arthroscopies. He has additional specialist expertise in treatment of young adult hip disease. Steve can empathise fully with a patient's desire to regain full function from their hip joints. For the young patient he uses a muscle sparing approach which allows patients to mobilise rapidly and achieve full weight bearing immediately post operatively. Steve's chosen implants are backed up by long term published evidence to give confidence in their performance.
Steve has entrusted oversight roles both nationally, being the Chair of the Intercollegiate Examinations board for Orthopaedic Surgery, and locally, being the Divisional Director for the Avon Orthopaedic Centre and the local Orthopaedic Major Trauma service. He is a member of the British Orthopaedic Association and British Hip Society.
