Curriculum Vitae

Mr Packham is a NHS Consultant in Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgery at the North Bristol NHS Trust. At North Bristol he works in the Avon Orthopaedic Centre, Southmead Hospital, and Frenchay Hospital, Bristol. Mr Packham specialises in shoulder, elbow surgery and sports injuries.

Affiliations

Mr Packham is a member of the British Orthopaedic Association, The British Elbow and Shoulder Society and BASK.

Medico-legal Experience

Mr Packham does not regularly undertake medico-legal expert witness work but welcomes enquiries in his field of expertise. He is not registered for VAT and therefore limits the amount of work he undertakes in this field.

Research Interests and Publications

Mr Packham has published in peer reviewed journals and his research interests include shoulder instability, rotator cuff repair, the management of clavicle and humerus fractures and injury of the acromioclavicular joint. Clinical Experience

Iain Packham has been a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon in Bristol since 2007. His NHS practice is based at the Avon Orthopaedic Centre, Southmead and Frenchay Hospital. Iain trained at Nottingham University before undertaking his basic surgical training and then specialist orthopaedic higher surgical training in the London region. He has undertaken Fellowships at the Cape Shoulder Institute, Cape Town and The Australian Institute of Musculoskeletal Surgery, Sydney with a focus on the arthroscopic treatment of sports injuries. Iain has an active research interest and has published on a number of subjects including sports injuries, joint replacement and hospital infection. Iain is married with two young sons. He maintains a keen sporting interest and has been involved competitively in a number of sports including athletics and rugby. He has international qualifications in sailing and Scuba diving and is a qualified ski instructor. He has been awarded The Certificate of Completion of Specialist Training and is therefore privileged to be listed in the General Medical Council Specialist Register.

Peer Review Audit

Mr Packham is involved in the systematic critical analysis of his own and his colleagues' standards of medical care as required by the Department of Health.

Teaching

Mr Packham works in a teaching hospital and is, therefore, responsible for tutoring junior doctors, medical students, physiotherapists and nursing staff.
